Alexander Graham Bell, couldn't stand the deaf. Attempting to pass laws to restrict deaf marriages, sterilization, tying little boy's hands behind their backs to keep them from signing, trying to rid land of a "defective" grouping of humans through Breeding Associations.
Imagine, being so dedicated to the idea of the telephone that you hate this inability. Representing the antithesis of his passion I guess.
